Library = Community Center

I do not read novels, for the most part, as I am a slow reader, but a library is so much more than books.  For me it is a place to learn, explore, laugh, be enriched, create, and be with friends.  I love my library, teach craft classes, take photographs and help the staff with a Facebook page, am a Library Trustee, volunteer, and a Friend of the Library. I help with programming ideas and the physical part of setting up classes, events, and books sales.  I promote the library in any way I can.  Letting people know all the library has to offer.  Even if I don’t use everything, there is something for everyone at the library.  Then to take it one step further, you have unlimited resources with the Interlibrary Loam system.  The Townsend Public Library is lucky in that we have a relatively new facility and with it a lot more room to be able to offer more to the community than we ever were before.

            Even with all I invest in my home library, I love to walk into any library.  My husband and I were a little lost one day and stopped at the Bolton Library.  The folks their were very helpful and their building is gorgeous!  As a family we frequent a variety of libraries on Cape Cod.  Each with their own charm and discoveries to be made.

             I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have the library with it’s monthly Genealogy Club, Fiber Frenzy group, or annual Ice Cream Social, Festival of Trees, and Summer Reading program for my five kids.  Last Saturday was the opening of the annual Festivals of Trees, which includes 30 storybook themed trees and one 16’ Giving Tree.  The Grinch even stopped by for a visit and check us out!  It made my holiday to see all the little kids as they got to meet the Grinch.

            The photo was taken on Sunday, November 25th when individuals and groups came in to decorate their trees. Time to go to the library!
