Libraries are the great equalizers. As long as there is inequality and ignorance of any kind - social, racial, economic, gender, and sexual, to name a few - there will be a need for libraries. What other places offer the kind of resources a library does - the variety of programs, workshops, speakers, discussions, audiovisual and written materials, and staff dedicated to education and the spreading of the world’s wealth of information among everyone - without demanding monetary compensation for every visit? I can’t imagine an institution more emblematic of our democratic ideals.
Help the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners show the importance of libraries. Tell us why you need/how you use your library by uploading photos, quotes, and videos.
